Hike to the top of Monte Generoso, Monte Bisbino and Monte San Giorgio. These are the landmarks of the Ticino region in the southern Alps, the only Italian-speaking canton in Switzerland. Enjoy the spectacular scenic views along the way, the vast expanse of the Lombard plain, lake Como, Lugano lake and the alpine range to the north. Dine in the best of the local Mediterranean tradition in a grotto, originally use to be a cellar for preserving meat and wine in a cool place, and over time turned into historic restaurants. Indulge in local dishes and home-made pasta. Taste the world-renowned Merlot in the wineries that dot the region and stroll through the vineyard and the premises in a guided wine-tasting tour. A great way to top-off the day’s hike! Please contact me for furhter details on the program, information on the overnight location and for other dates.

Jour 1

Departure for Capolago, where we will take the little cogwheel train that will take us to the Bellavista stop from where we will begin our ascent on foot to the summit of Monte Generoso. The path, which is wide and comfortable, quickly enters the forest: the first section is quite steep and steady, then it stabilises. However, the gradients are moderate all along the way (about 400 metres difference in altitude). Once at the top, there is a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Lugano and the Alpine chain: from Monte Rosa to the Matterhorn, from the Jungfrau to the Gotthard massif. The rocky plateau is dominated by the 'Stone Flower': the building recently constructed under the guidance of the famous architect Mario Botta. Architecture and gastronomy come together in this place where we *drink*. Return on foot to Bellavista or train to Capolago In the afternoon visit of the archaeological park of Tremona Free dinner

Jour 2

Let us discover together the Muggio Valley, the southernmost valley in Switzerland characterised by peace and quiet, magnificent landscapes in an unspoilt environment. One can describe the Muggio Valley as an open-air museum waiting to be explored. Famous for its chestnut forests, roccoli (bird traps), nevere (considered the refrigerators of our ancestors) and mills. Visit to the core and, for those who wish, entry to the ethnographic museum. Followed by wine tasting at the Cavallini winery. Afterwards, we go to meet Irene at the Bruzella mill. This is followed by a milling demonstration and lunch. Return and visit to the fossil museum. Free dinner The quarries of Arzo could also be a stop on the way back.
