Riding a fatbike in the dark while wearing a head torch is a unique experience. The light creates strong contrasts and the shadows are so clear that the cycling seems simple providing we stay on the prepared trail! With our torches switched on, we are surrounded by darkness and only notice that the terrain changes when we emerge from the forest. The moon then appears from behind a cloud and the entire landscape lights up. It’s pure magic! About the same time, the mystical Northern Lights dance across the sky from east to west in shades of green, red and blue. This is your reward!\n\nNature-based experience combined with exercise Fatbiking is an unforgettable nature-based experience with a large portion of exercise included for good measure. On this trip each participant uses a powerful Lupine head torch that light up the forest and trails. If we switch off the torches, there’s a good chance we will spot the majestic Northern Lights dancing in the sky above us! It does not get much cooler than this! We promise you we remember a trip like that. Information We will determine the length and level of the trip based on the participants’ fitness level and cycling experience. The normal biking time will be 60-90 min. To participate in this activity, you need to be able to ride a bike and must be in normal physical form. Riding a fatbike is surprisingly easy. However, it does not power itself and you need to provide the necessary pressure on the pedals and forward thrust. Rest by the open fire We stop to light a fire at one of the Alta Valley’s many rustic shelters, or at GLØD HQ when we return, and enjoy snacks/a light meal and tea/coffee brewed on the fire. Northern Lights Please be aware that the distance we can cover by fatbike is limited. Consequently, we are reliant on clear weather in the area to see the Northern Lights. (If it’s overcast in Alta, the chances of experiencing the Northern Lights are higher on our evening tour, Hunting the Northern Lights, where we cover a wider area by minibus.) What to wear On this tour, it’s nice to wear ski pants and jacket, or similar, hat and mittens. If the temperature is low, add woollen long johns and shirt. If you have a down jacket, bring it to wear during the rest break. Wear two pairs of woollen socks (preferably a thin and a thick pair) What to bring Bring a backpack to carry extra gear, and a camera and tripod. If you lack some of this, we can assist with a down jacket, hat, mittens, tripod and backpack.
